Parker McCollum, Country Artist

We asked American country music singer and songwriter Parker McCollum to describe how he began his career and what Texas country music means to him. At just 27 years old, Parker has made quite a name for himself. In 2013, he released his first single, and in 2015, he released his first album, The Limestone Kid. He’s nearly played at every prominent venue in Texas and is currently building a big career for himself.

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?

I was born in Conroe, Texas. I live in Austin now and am spending more and more time in Nashville. I come from a very hard-working family, so I’m entrepreneurially spirited and give everything I have to my music, songwriting, and the fans at our live shows.

Lucchese is a Texas icon – You grew up here. Tell us more about why you love the Lone Star state.

It’s in my blood. I’m proud of my home state’s rich history in every area, from music to food to geography and people. There’s a legacy of artisans here – I know it as a songwriter, and I see it in the craftsmanship of Lucchese.

How is Texas country music different?

Texas country is a cultural experience unlike any other. That includes everything from Tejano to the legendary artists I was influenced by early on, such as Townes Van Zandt, George Strait, and Buddy Holly. Then there are those I consider current legends like Miranda Lambert, and my mentor, Randy Rogers. Each artist has his/her own flavor, but it’s all pure Texas.

How did you begin your career as a country artist? And how has it progressed since?

I have always loved music and was inspired by the songwriting of artists like Townes Van Zandt, Todd Snider, Steve Earle, and James McMurtry. When I first started songwriting, that’s all I wanted to listen to. I love George Strait and John Mayer for staying power and creative growth. Also, Randy Rogers; he’s influenced how I look at business and music to a large degree. I’ve always known that I’d make this dream come true and signing with MCA Nashville has just taken it next level.

How do you find inspiration as a songwriter?

I find it everywhere. Sometimes heartbreak, love, and other times, family. There’s always a story though.

Have you continued to emphasize western wear in much of your personal and professional life?

I almost always wear jeans, a tucked-in T-shirt and of course, my Luccheses.

What makes you a Lucchese fan?

Quality and style. They’re the hallmarks of the Lucchese brand and that speaks to the artist and entrepreneur in me.

Lucchese boot: Trent

Tell us about your Lucchese boot collection. Which are your favorite boots?

I have 4 pair: Beige Ostrich, Black Calf Skin, Black Ostrich, and the Tulip Suede. They’re incredibly comfortable – like they were custom made for me. I think my oldest pair may be my favorite ones – they’re beige ostrich and have worn in perfectly over the years.

What role do boots play in as you prepare for a show?

They’re part of who I am – like my guitar. I can’t see myself doing a show without them.

Describe how you feel every day when you put on your Lucchese boots.

When I slide on a pair of Lucchese boots I feel like I’m at home. They’re not just a “pair of boots” they’re an investment. They’re quality boots that you’ll own forever.
