A controlled environment has resulted in the most superior hide of any crocodilian species. This premium material undergoes a rigorous tanning process encompassing nearly 100 individual steps, carefully ensuring perfection in every hide. Known for its symmetrical tiles, Farm-Raised American Alligator possesses natural enamel that is glazed and glossed to achieve a chic finish—not compromising the softness or durability of the skin. Wild-Caught Giant Alligator is defined by its geometric tile cadence. The center belly-cut tiles are often the largest, while the flank cuts are more minor on either side of the belly, giving the hide a layered aesthetic. This leather's wild-caught origin imparts a character-rich finish with pronounced texture and markings that reflect the animal’s natural environment. The origin is North America.

We craft boots from several cuts of this crocodilian: belly, ultra belly, and hornback. Ultra belly is ultra smooth; belly is only slightly less so. Abrasion-resistant hornback is heavily textured, with deep, tall ridges. The most recent caiman in the Lucchese family, giant caiman has larger tiles than the other varieties. All these crocodilians hold firm around the foot, even after repeated wear.

Renowned for its uniquely fuzzy aesthetic, Comanche Suede is a bovine leather buffed and waxed to yield a rough-out finish – developing an aged patina over time. The origin is North America.

A smooth leather, cowhide is a go-to material and a wardrobe essential. Soft, smooth, and a bit waxy, the leather is a versatile basic perfect for everyday wear. With high tensile strength and abrasion resistance, it’s an enduring material that will mold to the foot for a personalized fit. It needs minimal care—though it shouldn’t be neglected. Unlike American Alligators, the tiles of a belly-cut Nile Crocodile skin are smooth and visually dynamic, following an even centerline from the neck to the tail. Each tile has a unique follicle/marking that is only seen in Nile Crocodiles. The crocodile’s inherent toughness comes from its survival instincts in harsh environments, adding a sense of raw, untamed energy to the leather's refined look. Mad Dog Goat leather is a full-grain material known for its distressed exterior and excellent durability. Its time-honored tanning process highlights the grain's fibers, achieving a one-of-a-kind aesthetic. The beginning temper appears stiff, though over time and with wear, it yields a more pliable hand while maintaining ruggedness and durability. The origin is Asia.

Renowned for its distinctive aesthetic, Full Quill Ostrich leather is famed for the perfect cadence of raised crowns where feathers once grew. This material is soft and supple to the touch and rivals the tensile strength of most bovine leathers. Over time, a one-of-a-kind patina will develop along the surface of the leather due to the exposure of natural elements. The origin is Africa.

Acquired from the animal's underside, Smooth Ostrich is a subtle exotic leather with the same qualities as a Full Quill cut without intense crowning. The fibrous grain becomes even more unique when dyed or stained – showing off that high-low color. Smooth Ostrich’s texture gradient gradually deepens into pronounced quilling, depending on the die cut. The origin is Africa.

The softest of Lucchese’s smooth leathers, Florence buffalo is luxurious in both fit and finish. As velvety as glove leather, it’s also surprisingly durable and appropriate for all occasions. When new, Florence buffalo boots should hug the feet tightly. In time and with repeated wear, they will mold to your feet for a one-of-a-kind fit and show a rich vintage patina.

Ranch Hand is full-grain bovine leather with a soft, waxy finish that bears the ruggedness of Cowhide but the malleability of Florence Buffalo Calf. The hide commonly undergoes the step of burnishing that accentuates the grain pattern by applying a wax compound. The origin is North America.

Soft and buttery, calf leather is comfortable right out of the box. It’s also more durable than you may expect. Calf leather finishes to a consistent, saturated all-over color and breaks in quickly for a personalized fit. Typically used on more formal boots and shoes, calfskin is also used on Lucchese handbags, wallets, belts, and other small accessories.

Python is the most common snakeskin. It has a natural layered pattern and scales that are larger than those of the rattlesnake. Lightweight and soft, it can have a shiny or matte finish that makes a gorgeous dress boot. The leather is extremely supple and quickly molds to the foot for a custom fit after just a few wears. Our python boots and accessories come in many hand-dyed colors.

Suede is made from the inside of an animal skin (whereas other leathers are the outside of the skin). It has a distinctive shaggy nap. One of our two signature suedes, Frontier suede is a fine Italian leather perfect for year-round wear. So soft it feels almost delicate, it is still quite durable. Left natural or finished with a lush color, Frontier suede can look almost like velvet.
