It is often said that “everything is bigger in Texas”— and there is no finer evidence of such than the world-famous Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. If you have never attended the Houston Rodeo, you have missed out on a really good time!

It is considered the world’s largest live entertainment and livestock exhibition.  Over the course of three weeks, almost 2,500,000 people will attend the Houston Rodeo.   

The Houston Rodeo began in 1932 as a livestock show; six years later, they added a rodeo and parade to the event. It has since grown into one of the richest rodeos in the country. There’s plenty of rodeo action from events such as bull riding, barrel racing and two events that stand out every year as fan favorites: the mutton bustin’ and the calf scramble. Each night after the rodeo, a huge stage is pulled into NRG Stadium, where the Houston Texans play, and a concert is held for spectators. This tradition began in 1942 with Gene Autry and over the years has included performers such as, George Strait, Elvis, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and Bob Dylan.

There is a lot more to do at the Houston Rodeo than watching concerts and live rodeo action. There’s a petting zoo and a birthing center, where children can learn more about their favorite farm animals. Outside of NRG stadium, the Houston Rodeo hosts a carnival for kids and those who are still kids at heart. For those looking for a new pair of boots, a truck, or even a mattress, there’s a shopper’s heaven at NRG Arena. If you can’t find it there, you probably won’t find it anywhere. 

To satisfy your taste buds, you can find a food tasting extravaganza, serving attendees everything from foot-long corndogs to fried cookie dough! For those looking for more of Texas flavor, there’s a chance to attend the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest and try some of the best Bar-B-Que.
